Example complaints

Electrical system: “I have heard noise before coming thru the passenger side door. Radio speaker stopped working, then smoking from passenger side door in the door handle. I fear for my children's safety.”

NHTSA complaint #10588033, filed 2014-05, 96,000 miles

Air bags: “- the contact owns a 2006 Mitsubishi gallant. The consumer put the vehicle in drive and all of a sudden, the vehicle accelerated to 60 MPH and the steering wheel locked. The ocnsumer could not turn it at all. The contact used all of the strength in her arms to turn it a couple of inches avoid hitting a light post. When she tried to stop the vehicle by pumping the brakes they did not work, she could not turn the ignition off. The vehicle finally stopped when she ran up on the curb and hit a sign that was being held up by cement. …”

NHTSA complaint #10184640, filed 2007-03, 11,000 miles

Brakes: “I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant and have had it in the shop repeatedly for the front suspension, brakes, electrical problems and now I'm having transmission problems and lots of engine noise. My front suspension has a squawking sound everytime you go over a speed bump, the whole front end has been rebuilt but it is still doing the same thing. …”

NHTSA complaint #10209667, filed 2007-11, 8,800 miles

Exterior lighting: “Lamp sockets for both left and right side brake lights burnt out at 5 years, 2 months with less than 50,000 miles. If one side went out I'd call it a manufacturer defect. Both sides,...seems more like an engineering problem. Only the contact for the brake side of the 2057 lamp was melted and recessed. The tail lamp side of the socket is still clean. Put in a GM replacement socket which looks better made than the oem. Just glad the wife did not get rear-ended. Hung onto the old sockets just in case someone might be interested in looking at them. …”
