“I bought my car new. At 13k miles, the crankshaft position went out and there was a rattle in the rearend. The dealer fixed both problems. But now at 26k miles, the engine is knocking hard and it turned out my engine is burning oil. Btw, the rattle in the rearend is back again. I bought my car for a total of $32,000 and I don't deserve to make a few trips to the dealership for repairs already when I've only had my car for 3 years with under 30k miles only!”

NHTSA complaint #10218006, filed 2008-02, 26,300 miles

“I own a 2005 Nissan 350Z anniversary edition. It is burning oil at the rate of about 1 quart per thousand miles. Nissan internally is aware of the problem, but won't fix my car. I have been following their protocol and having an oil consumption test conducted, however, the last time I took the car to the dealership, classic Nissan in orlando, florida, to continue the test, they sabotaged the results and lied about the findings. Since the previous oil change, I have driven 2,440 miles. …”

NHTSA complaint #10189770, filed 2007-05, 10,000 miles

“One month past my warranty expiration date my 350Z stalled on the freeway. Subsequent diagnostics discovered a crank position sensor malfunction. The sensor was replaced, and the vehicle ran smoothly for another month or so. I am again experiencing a similar malfunction. Both malfunctions occurred at highway speeds of 60-70 MPH. The malfunction resulted in extremely dangerous conditions, as I was forced to coast off the highway. I have read that Nissan has previously recalled vehicles due to this type of malfunction.”

NHTSA complaint #10222675, filed 2008-03, 36,000 miles

“I own a 2005 Nissan 350Z with 39,800 miles on it. The warranty expired on the vehicle on november 2007. I have had a total of four crank position sensor failures which cause my vehicle to lose power at highway speeds. This has been very dangerous. I have taken my vehicle to two separate repair facilities twice, and to the Nissan dealership twice. The diagnosis has been the same. This means that the sensor has now been replaced four times. I have read that Nissan altimas have had a recall for a similar problem in 2003. …”

NHTSA complaint #10233449, filed 2008-07, 36,000 miles

“I own a anniversary m/t edition 2005' Nissan 350Z. I am having a oil consumption issue w/ the vehicle. I ran the car for 3,000 miles and when I brought it in for the next oil change after I bought the car it was down to only, 1/2 of a quart of oil in the engine. There was never any indication of the oil being low in the cockpit. The motor did start making noise so I stopped running it and brought it straight to the shop where they informed me of the 1/2 quart of oil only in the engine. I started a report w/ torrance, ca Nissan. They started a oil consumption test. …”
