“Oil consumption. I have a 2006 350Z with 22k miles on and at my last oil change I noticed about 1.5 quart oil consumption in less than 3000 miles. I tried regular and synthetic oil and seems to be the same issue. Engine is making a funny noise always. Noise is like lifter -type sound. It goes off after 4000 rpms and get worst when driving up hill.”

NHTSA complaint #10265068, filed 2009-04, 22,500 miles

“I own a 2006 Nissan 350Z coupe that consumes entirely too much oil. I regularly change the oil myself every 3000 miles, yet in between changes the vehicle consumes anywhere from 2 to 4 quarts. It appears that many consumers with this particular vehicle year and model have had the same problem. I wanted to bring this issue to your attention because I'm sure many other consumers have had this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10242808, filed 2008-09, 34,000 miles

“I noticed my 2006 350Z was using small amounts of oil between oil changes. Around 21,000 miles I saw a dramatic increase in oil usage. More than 1 quart low at only 1900 miles into my oil change. I have been working with dealer to show oil consumption and it has increased as time has gone on. This will result in decreased value of my car as the word gets out to the general public. I will not be able to get a fair trade in value or even sale my auto once the knowledge of oil usage is public. …”

NHTSA complaint #10209844, filed 2007-11, 21,000 miles

“I currently own a 2006 Nissan 350Z w/ manual transmission, that has a major oil consumption issue. The original engine was losing oil at a rate of 1 quart per 1,000 miles. Nissan corp. Agreed to replace the engine, with what they said was the counter measure fix to the issue. Now, the new replacement engine is experiencing the same issue. I have less than 4k miles on the new engine, and the dealership (john elway Nissan in riverside), confirmed the engine is experiencing the same oil loss problem. Nissan corp. …”

NHTSA complaint #10213973, filed 2008-01, 7,000 miles

“My 2006 Nissan 350Z was purchased with 21,000 miles in aug of 2007 and I noticed the engine was consuming alot of oil. I took it into Nissan of downtown la and they advised me that my year and model has this issue and ordered a new engine. In nov of 2007 I called Nissan to complain that I had not got a new engine as yet and they advised me that a rep would contact me. After speaking with the rep (rikki) I got my new engine within a week and it was installed. But the car was not running properly and was very sluggish. …”
