“Driver's side seat belt retractor known as a tensioner no longer functions. This creates a problem for the restraint system . The lap shoulder belt is loose and can cause injury. I contacted Nissan about their written policy that they will pick up the charge to replace the unit for life. Nissan told me that I was out of that warranty and would have to pay to get a new seat belt for $180.00. This is an outrage and the restraints are going out on many of them. I want Nissan to fix at their expense.”
NHTSA complaint #10544381, filed 2013-09, 136,789 miles“- the contact stated that on five separate occasions after parking the 2000 Nissan Maxima with 48000 failure mileage and attempting to exit the vehicle the seat belt latch would not disengage. On 3/19/2007, the seatbelt had to be cut in order for the contact to get out of the vehicle. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer prior to this to check out the problem.”
