“Engine stalls at idle or when slowing down and the RPM's fall below 600. Had to restart engine and keep one foot on accelerator and other on brake to keep RPM's above stalling point. On way to work, I must have had to restart at least 25 times and multiple more times to get home. Had to replace the icv or aac valve at a cost of over $550 (had I gone to dealer); but was able to pay less at an independant repair shop of $380. This part should have lasted longer on my well maintained vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10058816, filed 2004-02, 64,405 miles

“Engine coils and oxygen sensors have been needed to be be replaced on many occasions since I've owned this vehicle. When 2 of the coils needed to be replaced, the engine ran extremely rough (from both misfires) causing a huge reduction in engine speed and the inability to pass or accelerate safely onto the highway. This happened so abruptly on one occasion, that I was nearly run off the road. I am the original owner (purchased aug 1999) and have had to replace 4 of the 6 engine coils and all 4 of my oxygen sensors (each on different dates). I only have 116k miles on the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10235143, filed 2008-07, 101,500 miles

“I have the same engine ignition coil problem as listed throughout your site and the internet by thousands of other 2000 Nissan Maxima owners. The service engine light is on, the car is barely running because of these faulty ignition coils which the dealer recommend I have replaced for over $1000. Nissan refuses to address this defect with a recall. Something needs to happen. First they told it was the spark plugs which I had replaced. Then it was these coils, the car just keeps getting worse daily. Stalling, barely accelerating, can't take it on the highway because it barely moves. …”

NHTSA complaint #10164111, filed 2006-08, 60,000 miles

“The car started accelerating and then died while driving down the road. Had to exit off the road fast as the car coasted down to prevent other cars from hitting the car. In danger of other cars running over car while our car malfunction. Took car to shop and was told a 2 dollar o-ring on the auto control valve had allowed air leakage and this in turned caused failure of the ECM electron control module. Both auto control valve and ECM needs replacing where the car can be safely driven. …”

NHTSA complaint #10449066, filed 2012-02, 150,000 miles

“My husband was driving the vehicle when he heard a pop and saw smoke coming from the car. He pulled to the side of the road where the car became engulfed in flames. The fireman that put out the fire seemed to think the fire was caused by a fuel line that burst.”
