“Faulty gas gauge on 2007 Nissan Maxima, recall (noted in newspaper today, 4mar10) shows the same problem being recalled on my year vehicle, but not my specific model (Maxima). Gas gauge shows quarter tank of gas when the tank is empty.”

NHTSA complaint #10316689, filed 2010-03, 36,121 miles

“I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima and my car shot out of a car wash and across 4 lanes of traffic and crashed into federal property. After the car was pushed from the dry option I put my foot on the brake took the car out of neutral, put it into drive and the car took off like a rocket. I had both feet on the brakes and had to use two hands to steer the car away from traffic. I had the choice of a light pole or a fence on federal property. I decided on the fence to be the least damaging. My grandson was in the car and it all happened within two minutes. …”

NHTSA complaint #10305766, filed 2010-02, 23,000 miles

“We owned the car for less than one month and the service engine light comes on. Took it to the dealer and was informed that it was because the gas cap wasn't fully closed and we would be charged $100 to turn off the service light. Not only that but we were chastised because we didn't notice the warning on the gas cap that this would happen. This is unacceptable because not fully closing or leaving the gas cap off is a common mistake that any vehicle owner makes at least once. At least the service light should go off once you tighten the gas cap. …”

NHTSA complaint #10202471, filed 2007-09

“The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed. The contact would add fuel to the vehicle but the fuel gauge would not move. The contact was unable to determine the amount of fuel in the vehicle at all times. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection where they advised that the unified unit assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they advised the contact that he would have to take the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The failure mileage was 22,000.”
