NHTSA complaint #10780670, filed 2015-10, 170,000 miles

“I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima. Check engine light came on and within a few days problem began. When driving down an incline and turning one way or the other the car will die, steering will lock up and there is no way to steer. Unable to restart engine until you come to a complete stop, put in park then it takes multiple attempts to restart. You also cannot even steer over to the side of the road to get out of traffic. This almost caused me to have an accident on two different occasions. …”

NHTSA complaint #10497783, filed 2013-02, 105,000 miles

“My 2004 Nissan Maxima has become a safety hazard in that it jerks violently while shifting gears and losses power during acceleration. I was on the highway and was very close to being involved in a serious accident with a semi when my car suddenly slowed and when I applied pressure on the pedal it jerk violently like someone had rear-ended me. There was a semi right behind me approaching at a rapid speed. Because I hadn't applied my brakes he didn't realize my car would suddenly slow down in front of him. I was terrified to say the least. …”

NHTSA complaint #10264878, filed 2009-04, 132,489 miles

“Fuel pressure dampner leaking gas after 72,000 miles on 2004 Nissan Maxima. There are two on fuel rail. If climate control vent is open, one can smell gas if there is a problem. Very poor design to fix 3 hours labor to pull intake manifold off to repair, bolts upside down on dampner and hard to get to. Just replacing dampners did not stop leak, fuel rail also had to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10903253, filed 2016-09, 72,000 miles

“After 100,000 miles transmission started shoes of failure. Shifting past second grar would cause the car to stalll, then buck. Car would also buck when accelerating at high speeds. Also the car would stall and the accelerator would become unresponsive when shifting at high speeds. Forced to release the acceloratot and the press it again, until the transmission would shift correctly and catch the gear. Massive gas consumption caused by faulty transmission. Most errors caused when shifting in high speed or uphill. Specifically when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. …”
