“I have been feeling a jerking in my car, which sounds like the motor is moving around. I had the motor mounts replaced, but still was having the same problems. I have now found out it is the transmission, which will cost me $3200.00, I have been told by the shop that a lot of 2005 Maxima are having the same problems, if this is true why is there not a recall?”

NHTSA complaint #10498097, filed 2013-02, 80,000 miles

“Bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima, the car quit working in august 2009, I've taken it to 6 mechanics and it's still doing the same thing. The Nissan dealerships don't seem to have a solution to the problem just kept charging me more and more. The car jerks in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear, I've had the transmission replaced, motor mounts, catalytic convertor replaced and the car is still doing the same thing.”

NHTSA complaint #10450125, filed 2012-03, 84,000 miles

“A couple of months ago, my 2005 Nissan Maxima began having transmission problems. When beginning to drive, the vehicle will jerk when it reaches 2 and 3 rpms and rev the engine. Before it resumes normal drive, it will jerk again and make a loud clunking noise. This also happens when attempting to put the car into reverse. I was told today by the local Nissan dealership that the transmission must be replaced costing approximately $3300.00! …”
