NHTSA complaint #10044471, filed 2003-10, 1,230 miles“I bought new a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville which came equiped with firestone affinity tires. On incident date while driving at the posted limited speed all my tire threads on the rear tire drivers side separated from the tire. Fortunately, the tire treads which came off in one piece did not hit the car behind me but flew into fast lane emergency lane. Also fortunate was the fact that I was able to maintain control of the car until the tire threads left the tire well. Amazingly, the tire did not blow out and I was able to drive to a tire shop where I purchased a replacement tire. …”

Dealer has performed alignment, new brakes, new tires, balanced tires, check tires and rims for defects. Dealer indicates that this is a known problem to GM. Dealer service rep. Will not provide any additional assistance with problem. Indicated that's as good as it gets . Never had a vehicle perform like this that could not be repaired.”
