“My wife used my car on 5/17/2013 when she arrived home and turned the car off she was unable to remove the key from the ignition I read on google that this is an on going problem where some model can not be restarted once this occures I would like to know if any complaints have been reported about these?”
NHTSA complaint #10513022, filed 2013-05, 112,709 miles“I lost power assist steering when making right-hand turns. Fortunately this occurred at a low enough speed where I was able to aviod an accident. This is a saftey hazard because it became very difficult to complete a right handed turn. A dealer diagnosed the problem as a failed rack and pinion assembly and replaced the assembly.”
NHTSA complaint #10013890, filed 2003-04, 87,664 miles“I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix that has had the same problem listed in your campaign id number 02v286000. Pontiac needs to extend this recall to the 1999 models before someone get injured. The steering went out when my wife (who at the time was 9 months pregnant) was heading to a doctors appointment. We were lucky that she was pulling in the parking lot when it happened.”
NHTSA complaint #10010249, filed 2003-03, 38,468 miles“1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. Power steering failure left turn only and is intermittent. Incidents started december of last year. Several times it has put me in the point of danger making left turns and not knowing when it will be extremely hard to turn and when it will be normal. Several times during a hard turn the normal steering will return in the middle of the turn jerking my car violently further to the left. No accidents to date. …”
NHTSA complaint #10156151, filed 2006-04, 76,000 miles“My 1999 Pontiac gran prix gt looses the power steering when turning left, right is ok. At a standstill, it is nearly impossible to turn left so the car has to be in motion to turn. It is not smooth, but jerky and the force varies thru the turn. It is definetly a handful on a windy day, when more effort is required in one direction than the other. I haven't been to a dealer yet, because they can't squeeze me in on a day I'm not traveling.”
