Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Driving along the free way at normal speeds with traffic and mt car randomly shut off and turned back on, happened 3 or 4 times before I could get off to the side of the road. It seems to be a common issue if googled. Just the electrical turned off and on the engine stayed running.”

NHTSA complaint #10487723, filed 2012-12, 177,000 miles

“While driving at low speed on a town street the check engine light came on, followed by the odor of gas fumes. Subsequent inspection by experienced Subaru mechanics revealed a simultaneous failure of the A/C compressor, catalytic converter, a headlight bulb and finally, a damaged fuel line that was spraying a mist of gasoline over the entire engine compartment. The mechanics had never seen a situation like this before, and had no explanation for how these components could have failed at the same time. The fuel line and bulb were replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10863233, filed 2016-05, 124,400 miles

“Intermittently, the gear positioning lever sticks in gear. The consumer depresses the brake pedal several times and plays with the lever to unstick it. The dealership has replaced a part in the gear positioning lever, but the problem still exist. Also, the consumer was unable to remove the key from the ignition when the vehicle is in the park gear.”

NHTSA complaint #10076248, filed 2004-06, 20,000 miles

“Subaru Outback wagon, year 2000, milage 33,000 - problem: spedometer and tachometer work on and off. They both 'die' then they both come back on again. On the freeway, one finds themselves without speed information without warning”

NHTSA complaint #10037274, filed 2003-09

“Consumer wasn't pleased with undated correspondence service program wwp-99. (nar) the service program was about putting a special conditioner in the vehicle's cooling system to prevent head gasket leaks. The consumer believes that engine replacement is the only satisfactory solution. The consumer believes that eh wipers need to be redesigned to prevent the right hand wiper from dumping debris from the right side into the driver's line of sight. The radio contains audible windshield motor noise when the radio station signal is weak. The dealer indicated that this was normal.”
