“Torque converter assembly repair. When slowing down to a stop, the car shakes, shimmies and shuts off. I have to restart. This is very dangerous. I've spoken to Subaru and they say they won't fix the problem on my car because it has 149k miles on it. They say they will give me 1,000 dollars toward purchase of a new car. I would like my car repaired.”

NHTSA complaint #11338181, filed 2020-07, 147,000 miles

“The car is stalling out when in motion and coming to a stop. When braking to come to a stop, at stoplights, stop signs, or anywhere you need to stop, the car turns off. To start the car back up again, you have to put the car in park, turn it back on, then shift to drive. I am concerned for the safety of my family as this is our family auto.”

NHTSA complaint #11191990, filed 2019-03, 118,000 miles

“Today I took in my Subaru Outback 3.6r for an oil change while coming home I had experienced something like someone had hit me from behind. What had happen was when I come to a stop or slow traffic and begin to accelerate I get a maybe a late/or a delay in shifting causing the car to jerk or a bang. This really concern me so I'm taking it in today.”

NHTSA complaint #11132226, filed 2018-09, 115,000 miles

“All of the lights started flashing on my dash. The car has 114,000 miles. It is a faulty valve body and the transmission is shot. There are metal shavings in the transmission fluid. Subaru quoted me $7000 to fix it. The cars not even worth $5000. I am out of warranty and there's nothing they can do. I am done with subarus.”

NHTSA complaint #11164444, filed 2019-01, 113,000 miles

“When am driving and I need to stop for any emergency and I hit the brakes the engine will stall due a failure torque converter manufacture, it is really dangerous and after a sudden stop I would not be able to drive away and I was about to involve in a major accident because of this stalling issue.”
