“I'm the owner of a 2006 Suzuki m109r I was riding at 35 miles an hour and my bike pop out of second gear into neutral scaring the hell out of me luckily I keep my cool and new how to handle the cycle the bike has a serious problem with second gear something has to be done or someone is going to seriously get hurt or even killed.”

NHTSA complaint #10576925, filed 2014-04, 3,300 miles

“Bike shifts hard into 2nd gear. Once in gear the bike surges and bucks like the transmission is slipping. Sometimes it slips out of gear into neural. Mostly it stays in gear but bucks so bad I get wheel spin. Once in 3rd gear the problem stops. I have seen hundreds of online posts detailing the problem but I've never seen a solution in how to fix it.”

NHTSA complaint #10473230, filed 2012-08, 10,000 miles

“This problem has progressively got worse. The bike will slip out of second gear into neutral while accelerating. It has gotten to the point that I can barely accelerate in second without it slipping out, so I shift up to third as quick as I can to prevent this from happening. I remember reading when the bike first came out that it had transmission issues specifically with second gear.”

NHTSA complaint #10512535, filed 2013-05, 13,000 miles

“Since purchase my motorcycle had trouble going into 2nd gear, there was always a clunk sound now under acceleration it pops out of 2nd gear and into neutral,I called my dealer and he said I would have to replace my shift forks shift drum and 2nd gear dogs,I believe this is a defect that occurs in motorcycles with this transmission (Suzuki m109r).”

NHTSA complaint #10255487, filed 2009-01, 5,700 miles

“I ride a 2006 Suzuki m109r 1800cc motorcycle and two days ago the transmission slipped out of gear. It has slipped out of every gear except fifth when applying medium amount of throttle. It happened when accelerating away from a stoplight. I was behind other vehicles so I was not racing the engine when shifting. I had to negotiate my bike to the side of the road out of traffic from the fast lane in neutral. …”
