Example complaints
Transmission and drivetrain: “I have a 2000 Suzuki intruder 1500. My problem is when accelerating in 4th gear it wants to jump out of gear. I recently learned many other people are having the same problem regardless of what year the bike is. I only have this problem with 4th gear.”
NHTSA complaint #10023950, filed 2003-06, 3,000 milesFuel system: “While driving my Suzuki 2000 vs800 motorcycle at night, the engine quit running. While I was rolling I tried to get it to re-fire by pulling the choke. After coming to a stop I tried to restart it. I could smell fuel fumes. I thought I had flooded the engine. I waited a few minutes and tried to restart it. It would not restart. I got off to push it off the road. Then I noticed a puddle of fuel under the motorcycle. The voltage rectifier, battery, exhaust pipes, were covered with fuel. I was lucky it did not catch on fire. I expected a worn fuel line had failed. …”
NHTSA complaint #10201732, filed 2007-09, 18,762 milesBrakes: “2000 Suzuki vl1500lc motorcycle. Purchased new on 10.31.2000. Transmission jumps out of gear between 4th and 5th. Braking systems inadequate. Suzuki realized the problem and changed the entire braking systems on the 2002 model, but offered no relief for earlier models. Continued problems of this type could result in accident or fatality.”
