“Since I purchased the vehicle, the air bag light has been on. When I start the car up, it says the passenger side air bag is off. Also, the passenger side seat belt light in consistently on, regardless of whether or not someone is sitting in the passenger seat, and regardless or whether or not the seat belt is plugged in. I checked my owner's manual, as I thought perhaps something got shut off, but I see nothing in the manual that tells me how to turn the air bags on. …”

NHTSA complaint #10486729, filed 2012-12, 18,881 miles

“I have an issue with the air bag sensor under the passenger seat of my 2008 Suzuki sx-4 crossover awd. The air bag light on the dash comes on and stays on, as well as the passenger seat belt light on the information display comes on and stays on. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they checked the code and found a code recorded for the airbag system. They could not determine what triggered the code however they said they reset the system and it should be fine. The same day the lights came back on so I took the vehicle back to the same dealer. …”

NHTSA complaint #10453376, filed 2012-03, 29,600 miles

“The sensor light for the passenger air bag went on and wont reset the mechanic checked via diagnostic computer the light and said its a faulty sensor but changing it would require $1,500 passenger seat replacement because the unit is integral meanwhile the passenger seat belt light is on regardless if belt is engaged and I don't know the implications to the air bag functionality.”

NHTSA complaint #10544287, filed 2013-09, 130,000 miles

“Copied this from this site the ecu also performs regular diagnostic checks of the air bag system. If the ecu identifies a problem, the air bag readiness (warning) light will illuminate on the instrument panel. When the air bag readiness light is illuminated, the air bag system might not perform properly in a crash. Part of the required safety features required on most new vehicles is what was stated. Corrected the mileage from previous complaint.... …”

(Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 grand vitara and 2007-2011 SX4 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, over time, the ocs sensor mat installed in the front passenger seat may fail due to repeated flexing of the mat from use of the seat.
