“Dashboard is cracking all over and its not from heat I called Toyota and they said I missed recall by 17 days? Never got a notice, mu concern besides cosmetics it is a safety issue as the vinyl over air bag area will become bits of sharp vinyl schrapnel if deployed. They know its a problem and trying to avoid a safety recall by calling it exrended warranty recall.”
NHTSA complaint #11102585, filed 2018-06, 97,000 miles“When coming back from a short trip I noticed that the right side low beam headlamp was out. Then one day the light was on again then the next it is out. Now it rarely comes on so I.called my Toyota dealer and they said it would be at least $200 for new low beam light bulb. I then took it to a reputable repair shop and they said that the bulb was not bad but the ballast was bad. They showed me a list of complaints from on line and they said there was a recall for that problem. Toyota says there is no recall. If this is such a common and expensive problem there should be a recall. …”
NHTSA complaint #10762006, filed 2015-09, 31,000 miles“I was driving my car to the local post office to deposit mail in an outside mailbox/receptacle. The location of the mailbox was in a parking lot with a drive through . I was traveling 5-10 miles an hour. As I approached the mailbox preparing to deposit the mail, the car revved up and I felt or experienced a surge in which I overshot the mailbox by 8-10 feet. I applied extra pressure to the brake. Then, I felt the engine slow down to normal. At that point, I had control of the car. I had to back the car up to get to the mailbox I was frightened wondering what could have caused this to happen. …”
NHTSA complaint #10321694, filed 2010-03, 2,000 miles“20008 Toyota Avalon. 72, 354 miles. Last year the rear sunscreen started deploying on it's own and would not retract even when the car was put in reverse. This greatly restricts visiblity during the day and makes it impossible to see out the rear window at night. I checked on line and this seems to be problem that more than one person has had.”
NHTSA complaint #10919141, filed 2016-10, 70,000 miles“Rear window sunscreen activates spontaneously and without driver activation and will not return to the down position by use of dashboard switch. When this occurs at night visibility through rear window is extremely diminished and hazardous.”
