“I was driving on the highway. The hood opened up and crashed into the windshield. The hood will not drop back down. I tried to get the door windows down and the power windows were stuck. I braked hard and used the rear view mirror to pull over. I had glass chips all over me and couldn't see anything in front. Once I pulled over I inspected the hood latch and found both latches were rusted and latched open. The horrible designs Toyota has almost killed me and the only reason I was not hit was because of no other cars on the road.”
NHTSA complaint #10578434, filed 2014-04, 95,000 miles“Re: struts 3 service centers, including antwerpen, checked. All 3 agree on rr strut and mount. The other two added that the other struts were leaking. Antwerpen says that's normal for Toyota. However, a check at the service center of 2 other Toyota's revealed no leaks. After customer called a wise ass by Toyota rep, efforts to speak to managers revealed them unavailable for the entire day (this at 8:30 a.m.) re: power window. When it was first reported, the window became operable before I could get it into the shop. In aug. 2002 I kept the motor running and drove directly there. …”
NHTSA complaint #770424, filed 2002-12“Poor body design. Narrow rear window. 2 backseats head rests are to tall and close together completely blocking the window. Very hard to do a safe lane chandge.”
