“Brakes were applied in order to avoid a collision with a deer, but the brakes locked up, sending my family out of control across the oncoming lane and into an embankment. They were lucky they weren’t killed. Toyota knows this is an issue and have failed to address it. The ABS accumulator no longer works, causing a dangerous situation. A local Toyota dealer alerted me to this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11438708, filed 2021-10, 160,000 miles

“Attempting to travel in my 2013 Prius five during xmas was driving and approaching a red and while trying to stop pedal went directly to floor and skid light went on and barely avoided what should be an easy stop!! Weather clear felt a drag and no coasting ability... Car has 21,000 miles and is in perfect appearance but far from in peak condition as this car from brand new had issues I got tired waiting for Toyota to fix. …”

NHTSA complaint #11296756, filed 2020-01, 21,000 miles

“I noticed when I was driving on a dry clear day traction control/brake light/ABS illuminated my brakes became extremely hard to press and come to a stop also my cruise control will not engage. The lights on the dash would go off and the car would drive normal for a few days. It repeated this scenario a few times before the traction control/brake light/ABS lights stayed on permanently as well as the cruise control will not engage.”

NHTSA complaint #11156466, filed 2018-12, 100,000 miles

“Brake accumulator may have a leak. Three brake warning lights came on while driving; the parking brake, traction control, and ABS. After the lights came on I noticed the brake accumulator coming on more often and needing to apply more pressure on brake pedal when stopping. I did some research and found that there was a recall for that same part on the 2010 Prius. I haven’t had the car looked at by a mechanic but I was able to see and confirm that it was the brake accumulator/ actuator. Vehicle only has 87k miles and has had regular maintainance.”

NHTSA complaint #11506871, filed 2023-02, 87,000 miles

“2013 Prius 3 vehicle always serviced at Toyota dealership, last service they recommended front brake pads replacement, tires and alignment so I did . 7 months later driving along smooth city road ABS, tracking control, and brake lights comes on brakes feel harder to depress and no generative braking. I had diagnostics run for codes and came back (c1391 abnormal leak in accumulator). Research found this common problem crack in accumulator due to vibration but found no recall on it.”
