“After about 60,000 miles my check engine light illuminates with code p0012 every 1,000 miles and when I take it to technician they find nothing wrong after resetting. Then again it randomly appears and has been doing such for the last 10,000 miles. Frustrating. Also the front brakes squeal everytime I touch the brake pedal regardless of which pads I use or if they are new or used.”

NHTSA complaint #11302625, filed 2020-01, 60,000 miles

“As city street braking deceleration is ending, the engine suddenly surges and accelerates RPM. I must immediately apply hard pressure on brake pedal to prevent van from surging ahead and also immediately move automatic shift lever to neutral to disengage power train. After about 2 seconds the RPM acceleration will stop and return to normal. Toyota dealer checked issue multiple times, finding no issues. This is a random occurrence that started shortly after purchase and continues to this day and I've come within inches of smashing into vehicles in front of me. …”

NHTSA complaint #11123424, filed 2018-08, 500 miles

“Vehicle stopped abruptly with a shake while reducing speed at a traffic signal. I was in the middle of the road. A mild burning smell came out from the hood. The car was serviced one month back and as part of it they did 128 point( do not remember exact number ) and all reported issues were fixed. Around $1000/- was spent on the car. Since battery was just 1 year old, I did not expect a problem with the battery as well. Still I switched off all lights and tried to restart. There was no further response from the vehicle. I was blocking traffic from behind and police came to control traffic. …”

NHTSA complaint #11162105, filed 2018-12, 46,000 miles

“Loss of acceleration after braking. Vehicle will cease responding to the accelerator pedal after braking, will continue to go slowly (~20 MPH) for 3-5 seconds, then accelaration will resume. Happens at any time in any situation; brakes just have to be tapped to lose acceleration, has been happening since vehicle new.”

NHTSA complaint #10926499, filed 2016-11, 30,000 miles

“After a short 10-min drive, parked the van in my house's driveway. When I stopped, smoke started coming out of the hood. Which developed into flames and the front of the van was engulfed in flames. Immediately called the fire department to put the fire out. Van is totaly burnt. Managed to move two other vehicles away from the burning van. Aluminum siding next to the garage sustained heat damage.”
