Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving on a city road and making a right turn on a green light, I glanced to the left to avoid any driver possibly crossing a red light as I usually do as a defensive driver! Before I know it my SUV had jumped the median divider into the other side of the road and landed on another vehicle stopped. The safety system did not give me any signals to stop or to auto stop. I was very slow and from previous experience with this vehicle it did stop at being close to a concrete side of the street but in this situation it did not. None of ADAS parts of the system worked! …”

NHTSA complaint #11508773, filed 2023-02

“A manufacturer-pushed OTA software update failed, completely bricking the 5F Infotainment Module. This has caused a total loss of the rearview backup camera, parking sensors, and safety alerts, creating an immediate, severe blind-spot safety hazard.”

NHTSA complaint #11773712, filed 2026-10

“2023 VW Atlas Cross Sport SEL AWD, about 57,500 miles. Available for inspection. Oct 3, 2026: infotainment screen would not turn on. A soft reboot, a multi-hour shutdown with the car locked did not fix it. The unit is stuck in a reboot loop ( Starting navigation then fails, repeating). By about the third restart, the blower fan stopped completely: no heat, no AC, no windshield defrost or defog, no ventilation. Rearview camera, radio, and navigation are inoperative. Cruise control, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assistance do not work. …”
