Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Right front (passenger) side has a very loud consistent rattling noise at around 2000-3500 engine RPM range. Reading alone and confirming with other owners of the same vehicle, it is a loose fuel line going under the front passenger side rattling against the chassis. Could be a high risk, not sure, check and advise.”

NHTSA complaint #11390636, filed 2021-01, 6,000 miles

“After car has been driven long enough to be completely warmed up and then parked, on re-entering the car and before starting it, there is a strong odor of gasoline noticeable to the driver and front-seat passenger. Once the engine has been started and the ventilation fan has run, the odor dissipates; the odor is not coming through the ventilation system. The dealer's service department found one engine fuel line connection which appeared to be leaking and replaced that fuel line, but the problem remains. This has been an ongoing problem starting shortly after we bought the car in july 2018.”

NHTSA complaint #11185500, filed 2019-03, 500 miles

“Took my car into VW in Johnson City TN because my millage has been dropping drastically. Went from about 420 miles to a tank, down to less than 300. There is hesitation and jerking when I accelerate as well as a gasoline odor in the cab of the vehicle after refueling. Service manager said there was no code thrown and when he took it for a drive her drove “conservatively” and the mpg was normal. They did not physically inspect the fuel pump jet and gaslit me saying it was how I’m driving. …”

NHTSA complaint #11740201, filed 2026-05

Caused dizziness while driving can harm children. NHTSA complaint #11476551, filed 2022-07

“Vehicle brought in for Recall 20UF (fuel tank suction pump fire risk) on 04/15/2026. Upon pickup after approximately one week of dealer service, a strong chemical odor was present in the cabin that did not exist prior to service. Odor persists despite cabin air filter replacement with activated charcoal filter, professional carpet shampooing, and extended airing out over several weeks. Dealer dismissed concerns and suggested owner pay for cabin filter replacement which had no effect. …”
