“Trim on center console above shifter and below center cubby is razor sharp and has cut my hand deeply twice while parked and cleaning interior since purchasing the car.”

NHTSA complaint #11413606, filed 2021-04, 34,000 miles

“Less than one year into ownership, the car has experienced a panoramic sunroof leak on both the drivers side and passenger side front area near the a-pillar and the sunvisor. There have been multiple reported incidents all over various sources on the internet. The sunroof, visor and dome light area is exactly the same design as the 2018 tiguan that has now been recalled due to sunroof leaks causing short circuits on the dome light thus causing a fire. The fear we have is that this is a low volume car so it's not getting the same exposure vs. …”

“Sunroof Glass Implosion While Driving (2018 Volkswagen Golf) While driving my 2018 Volkswagen Golf at normal highway speed, my sunroof suddenly and violently imploded without any warning or external impact. The sound was extremely loud—similar to a gunshot or an explosion—and initially I believed something had struck the vehicle or that a large object had landed on the sunroof.Glass shattered and fell into the interior of the vehicle, sending shards throughout the cabin. The incident was extremely frightening and caused me to momentarily lose focus while driving. …”

NHTSA complaint #11704994, filed 2025-12

“Vehicle brought in for Recall 20UF (fuel tank suction pump fire risk) on 04/15/2026. Upon pickup after approximately one week of dealer service, a strong chemical odor was present in the cabin that did not exist prior to service. Odor persists despite cabin air filter replacement with activated charcoal filter, professional carpet shampooing, and extended airing out over several weeks. Dealer dismissed concerns and suggested owner pay for cabin filter replacement which had no effect. …”

NHTSA complaint #11741116, filed 2026-05

“Over time, a build-up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch contacts can make it possible to remove the key from the ignition switch without the shift lever being in the p park position. This makes the vehicle noncompliant with 49 cfr 571.114 standard no. 114 theft protection and rollaway prevention. If the ignition key is removed without the shift lever being in the p park position, there is a risk that the vehicle may roll away, resulting in a crash that could injure people and damage property. …”
