“Subject: Safety Concern: 2026 Tiguan Rear Seat Occupancy/Seat Belt Indicator I am writing about a safety-related limitation in the seat belt indicator on my 2026 Tiguan. The front seat indicators show occupancy as soon as someone sits down: red if unbuckled, green once buckled. The rear seat indicators behave differently. When a passenger sits in a rear seat, nothing appears until the belt is buckled. The indicator then turns green, and if the belt is later unbuckled, it turns red. …”
NHTSA complaint #11769586, filed 2026-10“My spare key fab caught on fire in my house while I was at work. The fire had the opportunity to spread soot throughout the kitchen as well as ruin my overhead microwave with the smoke getting in the vents. Luckily my grandmother and a friend went to my house to let my dog out at just the right moment and was able to remove the dish the key was in and take it outside before it spread to the house. I called the fire department and the fire marshal conducted an inspection and determined that based on his findings, the key ignited itself.”
NHTSA complaint #11747176, filed 2026-06“The engine cuts off WHILE DRIVING and hard stops the car. OBVIOUS safety issue for myself and 3 children. The car is still “on”, the car is still in DRIVE but nothing happens when I press the gas, it feels like the E brake is engaged, I get the on and off pop up text - no check engine or any other warning or text - that says “please start engine manually”. When I press the ignition button the car cuts completely off. I then have to press it again to fully start the car again. Hard stopping at any MPH in traffic or intersections, etc. could be deadly. …”
NHTSA complaint #11771495, filed 2026-10“Vehicle purchase on 3/18/2026 with 17 miles. At 30 miles the SOS button started flashing red, then green, then red then no light at all. I called dealership and was made to think it was no big deal and that a dealership has to reset. I also let them know my info center was freezing. Took car back to dealership 6 hours away - they had car for 5 days and when I got in the same Issue of the info screen freezing was present. SOS button was fixed. I also gave them a list of many issues that needed to be looked at that I felt were not addressed or resolved. …”
NHTSA complaint #11735669, filed 2026-05“While driving a 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan in Los Angeles County, CA, the vehicle spontaneously and without driver input shifted itself into Neutral. The vehicle experienced a complete loss of motive power and stopped driving. I was travelling with my newborn infant in the back seat when the vehicle lost propulsion in active traffic, creating an extreme and immediate collision hazard. The vehicle had to be coasted to the shoulder under hazardous conditions. Car literally stopped in the middle of a busy intersection. Several dashboard lights came on during this incident. …”
