2001: “Dear sir/madam, I had an accident a few days ago where I crashed into a car infront of me. I had my mother on in the passengers seat , and my sister and brother in the rear seats. My air bag deployed while the passengers air bag failed to deploy , note that the crash was mainly on the passengers side. I received minor injuries while my mother was severely injured and is still in hospital.”

2002: “I bought a 2002 in 2005 with 30,000 from a certified used Volkswagen dealership. After only driving the car some 29,000 miles the transmission went out. Fortunately I had 11 miles left under warranty so the nearby dealership honored the warranty and fixed my car. Had it not I would have been out $7-9,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10195108, filed 2007-07, 59,989 miles

2000: “My 2000 vw passat caught on fire dec 28, 2007. I had it towed to a nearby dealer for service and was informed that the fire was caused by a faulty ignition coil. The final cost to repair (if it can be repaired) is still being investigated. I find it very perturbing to find out that vw knew of these (coil) defects yet did nothing to inform owners. I had two small children ages 2 and 4 in the vehicle at the time of the fire. Fortunately, my quick instincts put the fire out with limited engine damage and without casualties.”
