“I was riding home from college and I down shifted from 4th gear to third and heard a noise and the bike stalled. I was able to get it into neutral and it started back up again however if I shift into third it makes a horrible tapping noise. So, I have been riding the bike without using 3rd gear. I am a disabled veteran who lives on very little vet benefits which do not allow for me to pay for a top end rebuild which is required to change the gear. …”

When I approached the stop light (red) right off mckinley bridge on missouri side, I down shifted from 4th to 3rd gear when I noticed the bike lunged forward a bit and started making a grinding noise. The noise sounds like the belt is not grabbing onto the sprocket or something like that. I was told that there is alot of roadliner's and stratoliners XV1900's has this problem. The problem is with the 3rd gear pinion p/n 1d7-17131-01-00. …”

The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH and shifting to third gear, the vehicle began to shake and vibrate violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the third gear would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 3,500.”
