“Traveling approximately 15 MPH in stop-and-go traffic on the freeway in los angeles. Weather conditions were dry. No issue regarding visibility. Front vehicle stopped. Applied brakes to stop, but antilock braking system activated causing the vehicle's brakes to grind and vehicle to glide, rather than abruptly stop, resulting in a rear-end collision. Airbags did not activate. Extensive damage sustained to the front end of the Acura, specifically the grill and headlights causing side-bar damage (estimate indicates $5,000+ damage). …”

The contact stated that while attempting to decelerate, the brake pedal had to be pressed to the floor in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who determined that the anti lock braking system, traction control system, and vehicle stability assist module had malfunctioned. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,300. The VIN was not available.”
