2018: “While driving on a local parkway, our sunroof spontaneously exploded. We were not passing under anything and nothing of any noticeable size struck the car or the sunroof. There was a very loud bang, and when we pulled over, we discovered a large hole in the sunroof. There were shards of glass sitting atop the sunroof cover, which had we not had closed, some of the glass would have fallen into the passenger compartment. A simple google search makes clear that exploding sunroofs are a real danger.”
NHTSA complaint #11373788, filed 2020-11, 52,300 miles2017: “Took 2017 BMW 440i in for annual state inspection and maintenance. During inspection, service tech noticed that the plastic clip that holds the emergency brake lines in place had failed and needed to be replaced to prevent damage to the emergency brake cables. Service tech replaced the plastic clip with a metal bolt. My service advisor stated that a plastic clip should have never replaced a metal bolt that is used to protect the emergency brake cables. Have owned BMW’s since 1990 and numerous vehicles since 1968 when I obtained my driver’s license. …”
