Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

2001: “The ABS electronic module fails. In this case it lasted a long time but when it fails, the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and dynamic stability control (dsc) won't function. Based on web forums this part seems to have a high failure rate (and not just in Bmw's) but if we don't report the problem here, the people who can do something about it will never know.”

NHTSA complaint #10440640, filed 2011-12, 118,000 miles

1994: “Vehicle hard to manage on the road while driving. Brought it in to dealer, and they were not able to diagnose the problem, but would cover the cost of repairs.”
