2006: “Hard to start, idles rough and sometimes dies when sitting at stop light. When taking off, it stalled while driving and lost total power for steering and other controls, very dangerous. We were lucky that we were not on the freeway. I know Bmw has had problems with the high pressure fuel pumps. My car has 130000 miles and after spending over $4000 at the local Bmw for the same issue, now they want an extra $6000 for the hpfp. My car is sitting at their shops, not safe to drive and they refuse to fix it. Is there a recall or anything they can be done? Thank you.”
NHTSA complaint #10870909, filed 2016-05, 130,000 miles2003: “My Bmw has been having issues since around 40,000 miles and I finally just found out that the high pressure fuel pumps needed to be replaced. It seems to be happening to all of the 760 Bmw's at around 40-50k miles. Bmw is taking no responsibility for this. All you have to do is type in 2003, 2004 or 2005 760LI Bmw and the first thing that pops up is the hpfp. That should give you an idea of how many of these cars are having this issue. There aren't many of these made and it seems like most of them are having this issue. …”
