2014: “The unit started to stall out almost got hit by another car, loud knocking noise ran poorly like it was missing, quit running all together, then started turning over like it had no compression, took to a Bmw dealer they took motorcycle apart told me our serial number wasn't covered under recall although same year and model has a recall for same problem, I was on a city street when this happened”

NHTSA complaint #11112004, filed 2018-07, 6,364 miles

2013: “After completing a turn onto city street it just quit as if you hit the kill switch. I was 3 miles from home and it did this again twice before I reached home. It failed to start again at the gated entrance. At this point when I tried to restart it had lost all compression. Clear to me that the recall on that issue was the problem. I pushed it the rest of the way home.”

NHTSA complaint #10929599, filed 2016-12, 20,000 miles

2016: “My 2016 Bmw c650gt scooters' mechanical timing chain tensioner failed, allowing my timing chain to jump, causing my valves to slam into my pistons which bent the valve stems, causing a repair cost of $3800.00 u.s. Had this happened while I was still on the freeway (had just exited I-5 in seattle and was starting to re-accelerate to 25 MPH on 45th ave w. When the timing chain slipped causing a very loud clacking noise, followed by a stall and the inability to restart) this could have easily caused a dangerous accident and serious harm, if not death to myself, or any rider in this situation. …”
