2007: “The rear wheel bearing seized causing a catastrophic wheel separation from the pulley and belt drive. I was told by Bmw motorcycles of escondido, ca that the insides appeared to have welded together with the bearing and shaft rusting together. I was told that this had never been an issue with other bikes that they have seen. However, numerous online forums indicate that this is a widely known issue.”

2008: “While riding my Bmw f800st on a long road trip, I noticed a loud squeaking sound coming from the rear wheel. My drive belt also seemed to be shifting out from the wheel. At the time I didn't know what it was, but when I returned home from my trip, I researched to find there was a rear bearing recall 13v-549 for 2007-2009 Bmw f800st. My mechanic verified the problem was the rear wheel bearing prematurely wearing out. I only have 22k miles on this motorcycle, so it's obviously premature wear. The bearing costed me $965 from Bmw dealer plus $480 labor cost and $82 in tax. …”

2009: “Bmw f800st motorcycle fuel pump failures. Over heat and sudden failure of the fuel pump can result in death or serioues injury. Fuel pump overheats, shorts out and suddenly stops. Will begin working again once it has cooled down. Bmw north america knows about this and is doing nothing. I almost was killed - some one is going to die. Please force Bmw into a recall. I was in the hov lane on a 4 lane freeway in ca. Traffic was moderate to heavy. The motorcycle suddenly lost power and shut off. …”
