“(1) events leading up to the failure: Bmw motorcycle 06 k1200gt. Driving motorcycle at highway speeds. Engine fully warmed up. (2) failure and its consequences: shutting off throttle to down shift engine would not idle down, engine idle stuck at 3000 RPM for five to ten seconds. When idle did slow down it would idle erratic and not smooth just touching the throttle would cause the engine to rev to 3000 RPM's. Very difficult to drive at surface street speeds, 40 MPH or slower. Problem would go away if engine is turned off for a minute or two! This has happened to me five times since dec. …”
NHTSA complaint #10191686, filed 2007-05, 10,000 miles“Fuel level sensor failure. Fuel gauge showed half a tank full, but it was actually empty. The engine stalled. Brakes do not work with engine stalled. The BMW dealer confirmed the malfunction and said it was a common failure. There were not previous instances of this same problem with my motorcycle. No warnings of any kind.”
