2010: “My brother in law and I just purchased new 2010 Bmw r1200rt motorcycles from two different dealers. We rode them over 600 miles. While riding the bikes the engine would die without any reason. His died two times and mine died five times, unrelated to any specific gear, or riding condition, acceleration or deceleration. …”
NHTSA complaint #10342142, filed 2010-07, 207 miles2009: “Engine cut out un-expectedly multiple times (5) during a 200 mile trip. First time this has happened in 18k miles, but very scary, of course it happens at the most inopportune time, in traffic. At idle, it quits, or, worse, cuts off when downshifting. Multiple posts to the moa confirm that this issue is common if not predictable sooner or later. Very concerned for safety of myself and my passenger(s)btw, moa is the official Bmw motorcycle owners association of which I am a member. Thanks”
