Took bike into dealership for repair. Dealer unplugged sensor and reconnected and reset the adaptability values instead of replacing sensor. Road bike approximately 500 miles and problem recurred. At both times this problem occurred there was sudden loss of power to engine which almost caused me to have an accident. Have lost confidence in motorcycle and am afraid to ride it due to unpredictable sudden loss of power. …”
NHTSA complaint #10631228, filed 2014-09, 5,225 milesTransmission and drivetrain: “The motorcycle was stationary when fault occured. It failed to start following refueling. A 'vds' code was displayed on the screen. Dealer could not connect to the ecu to determine the fault codes. The dealer tested all the sensors and wiring and no issue. Finally they replaced the ecu and they were able to connect to the ecu. They said the fault is in the ecu and needed to be replaced. The motorcycle has 4600 miles on it. If the ecu faulted while riding, a vds (vehicle drop sensor) code can potentially cause a crash at high speeds, especially when cornering on motorcycles. …”
