Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Secure vehicle against rolling light on was looked at by 2 independent mechanics and bmw of Wilmington saying pin breaks in shifter assembly. It’s seems to be a common issue that bmw needs to recall and fix. The 5.00-10.00 pin should not cost consumers 3000.00 to fix. The entire assembly does not need replaced. The pin needs recalled for safety purposes”

NHTSA complaint #11602286, filed 2024-07

“Error code states please engage parking brake while car is in park to avoid rolling. Apparently this is a common problem with a faulty spring in the shift gear. BMW should do a recall as this is a very expensive repair and a common issue and is a safety problem.”

NHTSA complaint #11502098, filed 2023-01

“SECURE VEHICLE WITH PARKING BREAK is the error msg. This is a VERY common problem with the F48 F49 2017 BMW X1. The replacement part cost around $10. It is a very small spring deep in the center console. Dealer estimates to fix it are $2500-$3500 due to the labor cost. The is a video which explains the issue and how to replace it yourself if you are able. Some post have indicated that BMWNA will pay but there is no official recall and I am not sure if it is standard practice for the Dealer to replace the problem. …”
