“Oil Filter Housing leak confirmed on my 2022 BMW X3 M40i. My current odomoter reading is at 47K miles and I was told that I could have a catastrophic failure of my engine if not repaired. I am several weeks out of my warranty expiration date and am frustrated that BMW won't honor a warranty claim for an issue known to take a long time to find symptons before being able to fix.”

“I have a 2022 X3 M40i and the negative battery terminal on the 48v battery was not connected properly to the battery and had welded itself to the terminal causing drivetrain errors, start stop issues and low voltage errors. The cable could of caught fire and burned my house and car down.”

NHTSA complaint #11770819, filed 2026-10

“BMW issued safety recall 26V438 (starter fire risk) for my 2022 BMW X3. On September 11, 2026, BMW Arrowhead confirmed my vehicle is affected but has no parts available and no repair timeframe. I was instructed to park outside due to fire risk and to avoid driving the vehicle. When I asked the dealership for a loaner vehicle given the safety instruction, I was told: no parts, and because of that we can't give you a loaner because there is no timeframe. I called BMW Customer Relations on September 11, 2026 and was told they would follow up. …”

NHTSA complaint #11763694, filed 2026-09

“I have two major concerns 1) When I drive in the snow and engage traction control the brakes stop working properly - to the point that I had to stomp on the pedal with both feet to get them to kick in. It was truly terrifying. Another friend with a 2023 model X3 experienced the exact same thing. No warning signs appeared and my car only has 9000 miles. This just happened so I have no complained to the dealer yet. 2) When I leave my house and head down hill to the stop sign the transmission automatically kicks itself out of Drive into Neutral. …”

NHTSA complaint #11509735, filed 2023-03

“While driving, noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Immediately pulled in a parking lot where the smoke turned to fire and burned the entire car by the time fire dept arrived. I was the only person in the car and was luckily able to exit the vehicle before the actual fire started. Incident reported to insurance company and they are investigating. There were no dash warning lights of any kind.”
