Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Occupancy seat sensor is malfunctioning. The part to fix the item is $1,500 including labor. The part is out of stock. So this is happening to many Bmw. Approval to replace has been granted on other Bmw models. Why isn't mine covered? The sensor is always on even if no one is in the seat.”

NHTSA complaint #11265229, filed 2019-09, 120,000 miles

“During frontal impact at 34+MPH, airbag did not deploy; driver hit steering wheel and passed out; brakes did not function properly either (was serviced by Bmw dealership less than 2 months ago); vehicle slid straight into car in front of it and brakes did not engage properly with driver pressing brake petal”

NHTSA complaint #10913921, filed 2016-10, 67,000 miles

“Passenger seat sensor for airbag has failed. Was told not covered under warranty or any recall, estimate of $2,200. Was told that safety system is now compromised for passenger.”

NHTSA complaint #11341987, filed 2020-07, 70,000 miles

“Takata recall: my vehicle has a dangerous recall and I've called Bmw corp and Bmw of ft myers, fl numerous times for about 1 year now. Bmw does nothing to resolve this recall. I do not feel safe driving my car. I want this resolved. Bmw will not help me resolve this. They say there is nothing they can do. Can you please help? I'm scared to drive my car.”

NHTSA complaint #11014844, filed 2017-08

“To whom it may concern: the front passenger air bag seat occupancy sensor mat has failed on my vehicle. This means the passenger side airbag is not active. It has been recalled in the past by Bmw multiple times, 17v605 and 17v428, but my vehicle was not included. However, this appears to still be an issue.”
