Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Passenger seat - seat/airbag occupancy sensor failed. The airbag and seatbelt light remains lit. Bmw said not covered under any warranty even though it's a safety issue. Estimated cost to repair - $3,000. Apparently airbag and seatbelt will not engage if sensor is not working”

NHTSA complaint #11402903, filed 2021-03, 70,000 miles

“Passenger seat sensor for airbag has failed. Was told not covered under warranty or any recall, estimate of $2,200. Was told that safety system is now compromised for passenger.”

NHTSA complaint #11341987, filed 2020-07, 70,000 miles

“Spurious passenger not wearing seatbelt alert when there is no passenger. Diagnosed as passenger seat mat sensor faulty with a replacement cost of $2,498.87. Should be covered by a recall as this is a safety issue. Apparently similar issue LED to a recall in older Bmw vehicles.”

NHTSA complaint #11353612, filed 2020-09
