“After driving about ten minutes into my trip last night at about 60 MPH, my Buick Regal 2000 ended up losing the ability to accelerate. It then lost all power and left me stranded on the interstate. I lost the power steering, the instrument panel started flickering. This occurred in a work zone at about midnight. Within five minutes the flashers and lights also went totally dead. Even the trunk would not respond to my remote. The car lights and engine had been very strong and never gave any reason for concern. The key has been difficult to remove from the ignition cylinder for several years. …”

NHTSA complaint #10819537, filed 2016-01, 158,000 miles

“I was driving around a drivethru at kfc and the car immediately began to accelerate. The car began to speed up and steering wheel locked causing my vehicle to crash into the side of the building and damage the gas line. Prior to the accident, I saw a recall on the news about the removal of the keys out of the ignition and noticed my vehicle was also able to remove the keys while the car still ran with a red security light. It was 8:30am and there was no other cars involved and I was not using the drivethru, I was just driving up to the door to see what time the establishment opened.”

“About four days ago check engine check light and oil light came on. I checked the oil which was fine and planned on taking to the garage this week. As I was driving to work at approximately 3:00 pm on may 21, 2007 I made a left hand turn from us 1 onto southampton road. As I accelerated the car the engine accelerated to full speed. I immediately pressed the brake , but the engine continued to speed up. I put the transmission into neutral and the rpms red lined above 7000 rpms. …”
