“The speedometer has failed to register any speed and is stuck in a position past the highest speed on the gage face. The tachometer needle jumps around also leaving you no way to judge your speed. I just bought the car. The previous owner said it failed some time ago while he was driving it. I am pacing other cars while I am waiting for repair parts to get here.”

NHTSA complaint #10809603, filed 2015-12, 115,000 miles

“I purchased a 2005 chevy Cavalier new in december of 2004 and in march of 2013 the gauges stopped working. They would randomly work one or the other now all my gauges have stopped working all together. I have no clue how fast I'm going or how many rpms I'm using or if the car is overheating or not!”

NHTSA complaint #10693420, filed 2015-03, 60,000 miles

“The entire gauge cluster no longer works and the speedometer was the first item to start failing while the car was still under warranty. The mechanics at the location where I bought the vehicle claimed restarting the car multiple times would reset the needle back to where it belongs. This worked for a while, but I have since had to replace the item on my own for the same issue twice.”

NHTSA complaint #10649015, filed 2014-10, 11,000 miles

“Over the winter I noticed my RPM gauge was not work properly then two months ago my temp gauge started acting up, then yesturday my speedometer started doing the same thing. Checked online today to look into fixing the problem and found out this is a recurring problem in other 2005 cavaliers. Dont understand why if so many peolpe are having the same problem why there hasnt been a recall on the make.”

NHTSA complaint #10515890, filed 2013-06, 116,946 miles

“Problem with cluster panel. Can't tell how fast I am going, what the temperature of the engine is, how much gas I have. Nothing works! I have had to live with this problem for months and am tired of it. I can't afford to get a new cluster, this is a problem it seems with a lot of 2005 cavaliers and something needs to be done!”
