“First driver side rear turn signal blinked rapidly, then brake light and turn light ceased to work. When checked, the light and lens were fused (melted) together. As well driver side window ceased to work. Mechanic stated its electrical and advised I check recalls.also sometimes gas pedal accelerates without pressure from me. No cruise control engaged, not able to determine when or why...just occasionally happens.”

NHTSA complaint #10483900, filed 2012-11, 52,000 miles

“A fire in my 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier began in the center console apparently the result of electrical problems with the power window control wirings. No one was in the parked and locked car at the time of occurrence. The damage resulted in my insurance company totaling the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10143992, filed 2005-11, 27,000 miles

“Battery terminal leaked, and since a lot of wiring is located under the battery, the acid ate the wires that go to the headlights, turn signals, and running lights. My highbeams work, and my drivers side turn signal work. Warranty wont cover, they said it was the battery. Why have wiring under the battery?”

NHTSA complaint #10005526, filed 2003-02, 41,000 miles

“After purchase of my vehicle - battery was dead dealer replaced new battery lost coolant - engine was smoking then found out vehicle was on recall had to replace rotors and pads with less than 20,000 miles on vehicle something needs to be done to improve the brake system on the chevy cavaliers they do not last. I commute to work by train and hardly drive so I was surprised with all the problems with this vehicle with not alot of miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10073155, filed 2004-05, 20,000 miles

“1.) leaking battery (acid) caused the electrical harness at the conector under the battery to become deteriated (corroded). 2.) this affected the headlights by cutting off the electrical current and shutting off the headlight. A night time failure could have been very dangerous. 3.)I took the vehicle to a repair station and paid $300.00 to have the problem fixed. The harness was not replaced, only patched because a harness replacement would have been too costly for me.”

NHTSA complaint #10108175, filed 2005-01, 78,171 miles
