“I recently took my Chevrolet Colorado in to a Chevrolet dealership because my check engine light was on. It was diagnosed that a sensor on the gas tank was rusted and needed to be replaced. The service manager admitted this was common for a Colorado. Parts were ordered and I was told it would cost about $800 to fix. I brought my truck in a few days later to have the work done. Later that day I was called and asked to come in because they found another problem with my truck that I needed to see. …”

“I have a 2004 chevy Colorado crew cab 4x4 with the z71 off road package. I ran over a stick about 3/4 to 1-1/2 in dia. And it broke the fuel line (that is pvc not metal). I think GM should look at this more closely as it is a major hazard on the road. I notified GM on monday 12-01-2008 and they said that, could not have happened. Well it did happen and if it happened to me I am sure it has before and will happen again. Please let me know how I should proceed with this major road safety hazard. Thank you, randy schmidt”

NHTSA complaint #10250873, filed 2008-12, 36,750 miles

“When filling fuel tank, about a half cup of fuel comes spewing from filler neck due to improper venting. This is not only detrimental to our ecological system, it is a fire hazard waiting to happen.”

NHTSA complaint #10850943, filed 2016-03, 82,000 miles

“2004 Colorado fuel filter was replaced at 22,300. The fuel connector came loose cause fuel to spill out. A year and some months later, the consumer discovered fuel leaking profusely from the fuel filter connector (between the filter and the engine). The consumer snapped the connector back in to place.”

NHTSA complaint #10176444, filed 2006-11, 22,300 miles

“1. With 860 miles on the odometer, an unknown object flipped up by the tires. Engine died with gasoline trailing behind the truck. The plastic piece connecting the plastic gas line to the plastic gas tank was cracked. 3. It couldn't be fixed, as Chevrolet and general motors did not have the part available anywhere. After 3 days traded it in for a nissan xterra to complete our thip.”
