“The rear brackets on the driver's power seat adjuster assembly completely broke. The whole seat now pivots forward on the front brackets. We brought it to the attention of our local GM service center and were told it would cost nearly $900 to repair. We feel this is a safety issue and would like your help in identifying the history of this type of failure. What steps should be taken with the manufacturer to have them repair this at their expense?”
NHTSA complaint #10048804, filed 2003-11, 48,000 miles“1st time seat broke was covered under warranty. 2nd was on me, mileage over 60000. The bracket that holds the seat is like 4 thin washers, 1st time 2 brake, dealer replaced. Less than 6 months later, they all broke. I had to wire the seat in place to stop from coming completely off. Can't use the 6 way power at all, for fear of something else coming off or braking. I would guess that there other full size vans out there that have the same problem. The dealer might say its on the conversion company, but it wasn't in my case. Thank you. …”
NHTSA complaint #10009414, filed 2002-11, 63,000 miles“Dt: the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Express. The drivers seat is broken. Two days ago I realized that the brackets that hold the seat in broke. The manufacturer needs to make the bracket bigger so that the seat does not push back or forward.”
NHTSA complaint #10139355, filed 2005-10, 95,500 miles“While driving , the driver and passenger side seat snapped off the base, on different occasions. The seat belts unlatched by themselves, the rear bench seat failed to stay tight, the side doors were difficult to open and the outside mirrors vibrated and the brakes were faulty”
NHTSA complaint #10040084, filed 2003-11, 54,920 miles“Failure of driver seat power adjustable seat mechanism. Two rear pivots are failing. The steel of the upper pivot link is fatiguing until complete failure. Seat can move during rapid turning or hard bteaking. Seat rotates about front pivit points. We have had vehicle about 2 1/2 years and have had to replace the seat adjust mechanism twice.”
