Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Transmission started to slip when changing gears. The transmission only had 39000 miles on it. I took the van into taylor chev. And was told that they needed me to authorize $1000 in labor costs for diagnostics. I contacted gmc to explain that I felt that they should pickup a all or a portion of the cost. Gmc told me that they don't show any records that routine maintenance had been preformed because it was done by an outside source and that doesn't count . I picked up my van and took it to a transmission shop where I was informed that this is a common problem with the 4l60e transmission. …”

“While driving and or parking, it was difficult for the consumer to roll the windows up or down on the driver's side. The part was replaced three times. The window would only move about 1/4 an inch every minute or so intermittently. It was difficult to open roll down the window when going trough the toll booth. When the window was rolled down, it would take about 5-8 minutes to get it back up. Gm suggested that this was normal. …”

NHTSA complaint #10059764, filed 2004-04, 100,000 miles

“2000 Chevrolet Express van, problems with intermittent downshifting from gear 4 to gear 3 for no apparent reason. Transmission has been serviced properly. No abuse ever and mileage too low for transmission troubles. 74000 miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10030290, filed 2003-07, 63,721 miles

“Nar 1/15/2003. The consumer stated the vehicle had an intermittent deceleration problem. At times, there was no engine hold back when the gas pedal was released, at other times, the deceleration was good when the pedal was released. There was a good hold back when going down a hill with the cruise control set, but if it was not set, the vehicle appeared to be in free wheeling mode, which allowed the vehicle to pick up an excessive amount of speed. The operation of the vehicle happens for no apparent reason and sometimes the mode lasted for several months . …”
