“Dt: recently purchased 2000, Chevrolet Express which exhibited a door problem. The door is loose. After inspection of the side door there is evidence of poor welding. The weld is still partly intact , and the other half is loose. The two door assemblies are very loose due to the poor welding. No repairs have been made.”

The part was replaced three times. The window would only move about 1/4 an inch every minute or so intermittently. It was difficult to open roll down the window when going trough the toll booth. When the window was rolled down, it would take about 5-8 minutes to get it back up. Gm suggested that this was normal. …”
NHTSA complaint #10059764, filed 2004-04, 100,000 miles“While driving , the driver and passenger side seat snapped off the base, on different occasions. NHTSA complaint #10040084, filed 2003-11, 54,920 miles“I own 2000 chevy Express 2500 passenger van. I bought the van new from the dealer and within two years the side door hinges had seized up. This resulted in the inside door trim panels breaking as the passengers in the rear tried to close the doors. I took the vehicle back to the dealer and their way of correcting the problem was to hammer out the hinge pins and replace them with new ones. Within one year the same problem occurred and has persisted. There is no way to lubricate the hinges to allow for the doors to open and close easily. …”
NHTSA complaint #10363591, filed 2010-11“The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Express 1500. The contact stated that the hinges failed on the cargo side door. It is a double door and only one hinge is supporting the door. He stated that the other half of the door could loosen and fall off while driving, thus causing a crash. The manufacturer stated that there was no defect; therefore, nothing could be done. The contact would be responsible for the repair costs because there is no recall for the hinges. He was informed that the age of the vehicle could have LED to the failure as well. The failure mileage was 115,000.”
