“I went to start the car in my driveway, smelled gas from the rear driver's side tire. I then shut off my car and looked. I have a leak in the fuel line, after researching seems that this has happened before in this make and model. I do not want to move the car or pay for a repair that is a design flaw.”
NHTSA complaint #11375910, filed 2020-11, 108,500 miles“Fuel line rusted and leaking near rear driver side door/tire (next to gas tank). I have seen numerous other complaints online regarding the same issue in hhrs. From my research, it appears that the routing of the line combined with the heat shielding lead to moisture trapping and corrosion more quickly than expected.”
NHTSA complaint #11048825, filed 2017-11, 65,000 miles“Vehicle leaks gas, the fuel line leakes, below the driver side rear door. I've owned two HHR's and both have had this problem, same exact spot. The line rotted out and is leaking fuel on the ground. I can see and smell it.”
NHTSA complaint #11394352, filed 2021-02, 151,802 miles“The fuel line on my vehicle developed a leak at the left rear tire. I had to buy and install an aftermarket fuel line kit. I found that the metal fuel line has rusted through. When removing the old fuel line the purge line broke open at a rusty area. These two lines and a brake line run through a tubular knitted heat shield in this area. The heat shield had collected dirt and salt and was damp on a dry day when I was working on the line replacement. Poor design.”
NHTSA complaint #11338691, filed 2020-07, 130,000 miles“My 2008 HHR panel ls has a fuel leak and it is located on the driver side just in front of the rear left car. After investigation I believe it is rusted. I understand chevy put a sleeve around the fuel line for whatever reason and living up north it has trapped water and rusted. The fuel line is near the exhaust and I fear it might ignite or possibly trap myself or a drive in a flaming vehicle. Can you tell me if this problem is ongoing and has been recalled.”
