“I have owned my 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ls for 2 years now. The sunroof got off track in 2001 and it costed me $85 to have it fixed. In june of 2003 it got off track again and a friend fixed it. Now in september of 2003 there is another problem with the sunroof, the motor that operates it makes a loud noise and it will not operate. My turn signals will not work. I have replaced all the fuses in the car, I have replaced the bulb to the blinkers and they still do not work along with the flashers not working. …”
NHTSA complaint #10037412, filed 2003-09“I have a 1999 Monte Carlo that was purchased in mid 1999. Ever since I purchased it and it rains, the wipers freeze in the middle of my windshield. This makes it very difficult to drive when it really rains or even night time rainy weather. Over the past year or so, now it even does it when it snowed out. This has happened well over 10 times in the past 4 years that I have owned this vehicle. I have taken it in to several chevy dealerships and they all say the same thing nothing seems to be wrong here. Just keep an eye on it and let us know if we can help you with anything else... …”
NHTSA complaint #10020886, filed 2003-06“The driver's side window insulation has leak, causing a whistle noise to develop when driving 50-55 MPH, resulting in distraction to driver. Dealer claims there is no solution.”
NHTSA complaint #848158, filed 1999-09“The dealership replaced this sunroof while the vehicle was still under warranty. The track is broken again. The dealership can't repair it again because it is out of warranty. Chevrolet refuses to acknowledge a problem with the sunroof. The guy that owns the place where I am having it repaired says he has replaced hundreds of them on the Monte Carlo. Chevrolet used a plastic track instead of a metal track and that is why they break. It is a minimum of a $1300 charge to replace this sunroof. Chevrolet could have used an aluminum track and have avoided this financial drain on the consumer.”
