Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“(1) while sitting in heavy traffic at a stop light in the city. I have a habit of not stopping close to vehicles at stop lights. While stopped at the light behind a new looking explorer of some kind my truck lunged forward without warning by itself with my feet on the brakes. If I had stopped closer to the van I would have hit it very hard. I read no one can stand in front of the truck with the motor running because of this. (2) started my truck in my yard. It quickly idle very fast and would not idle down. Put in gear and it took off very fast and brakes locked up. …”

NHTSA complaint #10627974, filed 2014-08

“The ABS in my vehicle failed without warning or producing an error code. Other owners that I have spoken with have told me of having the same problems. But the manufacturer has been of no help. I would be content to know how to disable the system in order to prevent future incident, but no one will volunteer this information because it is safety equipment. I can not, in good conscience, sell this vehicle. However I am very uncomfortable driving it, knowing that I will eventually have another accident with it because there is no answer as to what is wrong with the ABS. …”

NHTSA complaint #702621, filed 1999-01

“Applied brakes hard in both instances to avoid collision . The instance in 98 it was raining but the truck should have slowed faster . It was as if ii hadn't appied the brakes but a little . But I was pressing hard . In the occurance in 99 I was in a construction zone . There was a little loose pavement material on the road , as they were cutting out pavement 100 yards up the road .I applied the brakes in a fast stop as the traffic had stopped in front of me . And the truck did not stop as fast as it should of . I was pressing the brakes hard , but the truck wasn't stopping as it should have . …”

“Vehicle experiencing same problems as sted in recall 99v193000 for anti-lock braking system. Dealer has been contacted, and informed consumer that recall didn't apply to to this vehicle due to VIN. Also, didn't apply to two wheel drive vehicles. Consumer has a two wheel drive. Please provide further details.”

NHTSA complaint #8000631, filed 2001-12

“The antilock brake light is on all the time, the regular braking abilities are not affected, but the antilocking capabilities are gone. The digital dash guages do not work, the only lighted items that work are the odometer & the speedometer ( no fuel guage, no engine temp, no oil pressure, no tach, no amp meter).”
