“Air bags failed to deploy when a dump truck driver ran a red light on the highway at 50+MPH without hitting his breaks at all. I was at the intersecting light that was green so I had just started to pull into the intersection to cross over the highway.the front driver's side quarter panel is smashed to the motor, hood ripped off and mangled. The dump truck spun us 180 degree's and drove up over the front windshield. …”

NHTSA complaint #11317258, filed 2020-03, 15,000 miles“The contact owned a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander. While driving 15 MPH, another vehicle driving approximately 40 MPH crashed into the passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The daughter sustained internal bruises in her stomach that required medical attention. In addition, the wife sustained a leg injury and stomach bruises, which did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.”
NHTSA complaint #10968912, filed 2017-03, 119,000 miles“Chevrolet Uplander places the back seat passenger air bags in the seat. Because it is in the seat, there is no armrest provided for the passenger. All passengers that I have had in the back seat have made an armrest to be more comfortable, but thereby blocking the function of the airbag. This safety feature of the car will not function properly in a collision, due to passenger desire to be comfortable. This is a very poor design and should be corrected prior to any injuries.”
NHTSA complaint #10156490, filed 2006-05“Removal of 2nd row seats on Chevrolet Uplander causes airbag light to stay on. Need permission from NHTSA to allow Chevrolet to deactivate 2nd row seat alarm.”
