“I have a 2006 convertible Pt Cruiser turbo lite (turbo tuned to take regular gas) - and have the exact same problem this guy I quoted below had/has. Raw gas fumes fill the car every time I turn a corner or accelerate the car to pass a slow moving vehicle on the interstate. Usually the slow vehicle is going about 60 so it's not like I think I'm on the speed-limit-free autobahn. The gas tank is always less than 1/2 full since I rarely drive out of town. Quote from facebook - warning: all Pt Cruiser owners. Fire hazard.. I just submitted the following complaint to the NHTSA. …”
NHTSA complaint #11014784, filed 2017-08, 65,000 miles“I bought a Pt Cruiser sedan and the car lot I bought if from said it needed front shocks and it would be ready in two day. I pick up the Pt Cruiser and decided to take it to my mechanic and have it check out from top to bottom. It has over 100 mechanical issues, from shocks which were never put on. There is oil in the spark plugs and leaves a smell when the heater is on which makes us very ill. It is not safe to drive. Also, the car lot I bought it from which it was sold for around $2,000 dollars and needs over $3,000 dollars worth of work. …”
NHTSA complaint #10559663, filed 2014-01, 104,000 miles“I have had this 2006 Pt Cruiser for over a year and a half. Within that year and a half, I have now had to replace the tires, brakes. The air conditioner just went out. This car has been horrible. I can't blow the horn without pounding it. The lamp assemblies hold moisture, the thing drinks gas and right now with gas prices this is a problem. Yet, nobody wants me to trade it because it isn't worth a penny because nobody wants them. They need to recall the fact they lied on the stickers about gas mileage. I may get 17 miles per gallon. Horrible car. …”
NHTSA complaint #10228559, filed 2008-05, 44,052 miles“The warning lights on the dashboard go haywire, giving false readings. The gas tank is full, but the false alarm says empty - and the car stalls. I had to pay $1221 for the replacement of elecronic cluster, later on $660 for another electronic part. This didn't help and the car kept giving false alarms. The car would stall on highway.”
NHTSA complaint #11074037, filed 2018-02, 41,000 miles“Vehicle has same timp and failed fuel pump relay of recall units from manufacturer affecting 2007-2014, jeep, durango, and town and country. Several mechanics previously could not find the issue with stalling and poor acceleration. This occurred and worsened over 6 months, before the fuel pump finally failing.”
